Head Clash With Panthers Taylan May Leaves Fullback In Doubt For Origin

Broncos Confirm Reece Walsh Facing Surgery

Head clash with Panthers' Taylan May leaves fullback in doubt for Origin

Brisbane coach Kevin Walters has confirmed that Reece Walsh will undergo surgery after suffering a severe cut around his eye in a head clash with Penrith's Taylan May during the Broncos' 32-18 victory on Friday night. The injury occurred in the first half, and Walsh was taken from the field and did not return.

Walters said after the game that Walsh would likely require surgery but was unsure of the extent of the damage. "He's got a fair cut there, and he's probably going to need surgery," Walters said.

The injury is a blow to the Broncos, who were already without Kotoni Staggs (knee) and Payne Haas (shoulder). Walsh has been one of the Broncos' best players this season, and his absence would be a major loss.

It is also a concern for Queensland, as Walsh is expected to be in the Maroons' squad for the State of Origin series. The series begins on June 8, and Walsh's injury could put his Origin debut in jeopardy.

The NRL is also investigating the incident. May was not charged with any offence on the field, but the NRL's match review committee will review the incident and could still charge May with a dangerous contact charge.
